Toddler Sleep Tip: Sound Machine

We just discovered something AMAZING.

Our kids, maybe like yours, have not been sleeping nearly as well since Covid hit. Life has been flipped upside-down: my husband and I are not our calmest, they are missing the predictability of school, and likely aren't getting enough activity in a day.

We know, that when our stress hormone is high, it's hard to build our melatonin (sleep hormone). Our kids have been struggling to get to sleep, stay asleep, and sleep in in the morning.

I've been exploring ways to regulate their nervous system (which would decrease their stress hormone) - and one thing kept popping up: "sounds of nature".

We spend lots of time outside - but, that wasn't fixing it.

I was googling "nature sounds" and some sound machines popped up. My kids have never slept with a sound machine, they didn't seem to need it. But, I was starting to get desperate to try anything to get them sleeping better!

I bought a sound machine that had nature sounds in it. Night 1 = MAGIC.

It's been 6 days of sleeping with tinkling rain and thunder in the background, or, crickets... All three kids are making it through the night, and sleeping 30 to 60 minutes longer than they had before!

So, if you're like us, try it out! See if it also helps to soothe their little systems so they can sleep better.
